The greatest discovery of any generation is that a human can alter his life by altering his attitude.
— William James, psychologist and philosopher
I believe that everyone has a burning desire to win, but many people anticipate and rationalize defeat before they even compete. I am sure that’s because they believe they can’t win. As I have said for years: If they believe that, they are right! They have defeated themselves by mentally giving up before even trying.
For instance, let’s say John and I are going to play tennis. John has always won our previous matches. If I make the assumption that he will win again, in my mind, I have already lost even though the match has yet to begin.
On the other hand, if I decide I will play my best game ever that day, then I might just win.
So, what is your attitude about yourself? Do you have a “losing” mentality or a “winning” mentality?
